Title: Adaptation Problems Identification within Function-Oriented Search

Abstract:

Secondary problems is one of the innovation killers. Inability to effectively predict and solve them leads to the failure of even best solutions for the initial problem. Different TRIZ problem solving tools result in different level of development of proposed solutions. Commonly the solutions that are an outcome from applying ARIZ, Standard Solutions and Trends of Engineering System Evolution have a pretty low level of substantiation; they are just raw ideas. On the contrary the solutions that derived from Function-Oriented Search (FOS) represent real existing technologies. However usually there are multiple differences between conditions in the Leading Area of science and engineering where this technology came from and the area where the initial problem was stated in. The bigger this gap, the more difficult it will be to adapt the proposed technology to the initial area.

In order to address this issue the additional TRIZ-based tools were developed within FOS technique - Similarity Factor identification and Adaptation Problems identification. Similarity Factor (SF) is defined by comparison of the quantitative levels of parameters of main and additional functions of the initial object and the engineering system from the Leading Area. Also the super-system requirements are important for effective identification of SF. It is recommended to formulate Adaptation Problems (AP) as specific directions to increase Similarity Factor. The technique and algorithm for Similarity Factor and Adaptation Problems identification will be presented in the paper. The article will be furnished with several practical examples.
